Going into July we've reached a month packed full of interesting new openings in London. Here is our pick of the key ones to know about.
Tatale
Southwark - 66 Great Suffolk St, London SE1 0BL
Chef Akwasi Brenya-Mensa has been building up to the opening of Tatale with a series of successful supperclubs and this is his first permanent restaurant. Set inside the Africa Centre in Southwark, it's all based around pan-African cuisine with dishes taking influence from across the continent, including specific Ghanaian references.
Tim Hortons
Park Royal - Royale Leisure Park, London W3 0PA
The Canadian fast-food chain has many fans around the world and has opened in the UK before - but this is the first time we're seeing a London restaurant. Alongside hot and iced coffees expect burgers, hot dogs and their mini-doughnut Timbits. The Park Royal location will also have a drive-thru.
Straker's
Notting Hill - 91 Golborne Rd, London W10 5PR
Chef Thomas Straker has built up an absolutely huge following on both TikTok and Instagram during the various lockdowns. The chef, who has worked at Heston Blumenthal’s Dinner and Elystan Street, will have a menu at his Notting Hill restaurant that's based around sustainability and seasonality as well as sticking to his central premise - "food you want to eat".
Bubala
Soho - 15 Poland Street, London W1F 8PR
The original Bubala, serving up a vegetarian Middle-Eastern-inspired menu in Spitalfields, was a big hit when it opened. This second restaurant, in Soho, is slightly bigger than the original and as well as featuring some of the favourite dishes from the original, like the confit potato latkes, will be adding Soho exclusives too.
The Baring
Islington - 55 Baring St, London N1 3DS
This Islington pub is by a duo with a resume that includes Dabbous, Kerridge's Bar and Grill and Orasay so we should be expecting good things. Seasonality and provenance with a low environmental impact are the focus with dishes including quail shish, pul biber chilli & garlic yoghurt.
Miznon London
Soho - 8-12 Broadwick St, London W1F 8HN
Israeli celebrity chef Eyal Shani's Miznon is a big deal, with restaurants worldwide including Paris and New York. It's primarily all about their soft-filled pitas as well as one of their signatures, the whole roasted cauliflower.
Mriya
Chelsea - Brompton Road, SW5 9JA
Mirya comes from one of Ukraine's top chefs, Yurii Kovryzhenko, who has had to remain in London due to the war with Russia. He's now opening his own Ukrainian restaurant here, with the plan to have it staffed by Ukrainian refugees.
Bottle & Rye
Brixton - Ground Floor, 404-406 Market Row, Brixton, London SW9 8LD
This Brixton wine bar comes from Robin and Sarah Gill, who are also behind Bermondsey Larder and Darby's. This will be inspired by the Parisian wine bar scene and they've brought in an ex-Lino chef to take care of the food.
Valderrama’s
Islington - 163 Upper St, Islington, London N1 1US
Valderrama's is the second Islington restaurant from James Cochran, also behind 12:51. This time he's opening a sports bar that will serve frozen cocktails alongside fried chicken, with this restaurant being a permanent home for his Around the Cluck spin-off.
The Moët & Chandon Champagne Bar at Harrods
Knightsbridge - Harrods, Knightsbridge, London SW1X 7XL
Harrods is going big on Champagne with this huge new bar from Moet (and it's also the first time the Champagne brand has opened a permanent bar in Europe). Expect lots of "food bites" to go with the fizz, including oysters (of course) and a dessert called Moët Caramel.
