A Hot Dinners Exclusive
Soho's Mr Ji got a brand new lease of life when the team behind TĀ TĀ Eatery, Zijun Meng and Ana Gonçalves, took over the kitchen. Adding more dishes to the menu, with a little TA TA twist, It's become a big Soho Hit and Jay Rayner called it "fun, reasonably priced and well-executed" (and we were also impressed ourselves).
Now they're heading up to Camden for a new Mr Ji (taking over what used to be Hook which is where they first popped up a few years back). Some of the hits from Soho that'll be making their way to Camden include:
- The Prawn ‘In’ Toast, a toasted brioche ‘box’ filled with prawns and sweetcorn in a bechamel sauce, covered in Parmesan
- The O’JI, large fried chicken breast, chilli sprinkles, piccalilli mayo and kimchi (it also comes with scissors to cut it)
- Double-cooked Daikon Cake with shiitake and garlic soy paste
- The Sichuan Burger - double-fried chicken thigh, cucumber salad and Sichuan chilli in a pineapple bun
New to the menu are some larger sharing dishes like Cantonese-style roast chicken and Prawn fried rice, which we're told will have a “mountain” of prawns on top as well as a hot & sour soup glaze.
They're also adding something they tried out in Soho last year - the Sunday roast. That's either going to be roast duck with an umami dip; crispy roast pork belly with sweet mustard, Taiwanese sausage with garlic mayo or a crispy roast chicken.
There will be a larger variety of wines on the menu in Camden, with a low-intervention wine list but the cocktails will be there too - including their very moreish salted plum negroni.
As for the look of the restaurant, expect it to be completely stripped back (much like the Soho version).
