With spring firmly here, London's restaurant openings are really heating up in March with some big new openings on the horizon.
Lisboeta
Fitzrovia - 30 Charlotte Street, London W1T 2NG
His first big new restaurant since being part of the Maos launch team, Nuno Mendes is back with this new Portuguese spot in Fitzrovia. As the name suggests, we should be getting a little slice of Lisbon in London and we're really hoping that his pastel de nata (hands down the best we've ever had) are on the menu.
Caravel
Hoxton - 172 Shepherdess Walk, London N1 7JL
This is a canal-based team-up from the brothers Spiteri (Fin and Lorcan) who are opening a floating restaurant on a barge moored on the Regent's Canal. Expect dishes like confit duck rissoles and roast hake with confit potatoes and curry sauce. The cocktails should be on-point too.
Facing Heaven
Hackney - 1a Bayford Street London E8 3SE
Julian Denis has closed the popular Mao Chow but is replacing it with another vegan restaurant, opening just around the corner. It's a bigger space than he's ever had before and the menu will now take in Cantonese, Yunnan and Shaanxi cuisines - while still being solely plant-based.
Noci
Islington - 4-6 Islington Green, London N1 2XA
Louis Korovilas was in the opening team for Bancone and now he's come to Islington with Noci, where the menu will have a combination of Italian street food and pasta dishes. It's the first proper fresh pasta restaurant to make its way to Islington, and it looks like the fritti on the menu will be just as big an attraction.
Market Hall Cargo
Canary Wharf - 25 North Colonnade, London E14 5HS
With (hopefully) the worst of the pandemic well behind us, Market Hall are also seeing a resurgence. In February, we'll see the reopening of Market Hall West End as well as this completely new food hall from them in Canary Wharf. Here you'll find Gopal's Corner (from Roti King), Baoziinn, Le Bab and more serving up the food.
Upstairs at The George
Fitzrovia - 55 Great Portland Street, London W1W 7LQ
While the pub itself launched late last year, next up is the launch of the main upstairs restaurant at the James Knappett (of two Michelin-starred Kitchen Table) Fitzrovia pub. We're told to expect a menu of upgraded pub classics which includes dishes like steak tartare with hay-smoked egg yolk and Scottish langoustine scampi with chips - as well as an English sparkling wine bar.

The Princess Royal
Notting Hill - 47 Hereford Rd, London W2 5AH
Ben Tish left Norma to run the menus at Cubitt House pubs and that included launching this brand new pub in Notting Hill. The menu here will feature some recognisable Tish touches including dishes like red prawn crudo, rosemary and orange and there should be a strong raw menu too.
One Hundred Shoreditch
Shoreditch - 100 Shoreditch High Street, London E1 6JQ
This Shoreditch hotel is taking the place of the Ace, but has a few aces up its own sleeves. As well as seafood restaurant Goddard Gibbs (with massive sculptures as you can see from the photo), there's also a bar from Mr Lyan and the promise of a new rooftop bar opening later in the year.

Walter's
West Dulwich - 84 Park Hall Road, Dulwich, London SE21 8BW
This is the next restaurant from The Oystermen, who already have a hit on their hands with their Covent Garden restaurant. The menu here will be focused on British-inspired classics, but there's also a strong seafood offering, including a Bloody Mary crab salad. English wine will also be at the forefront of the menu, with a basement wine cellar being used for tastings.
Three Uncles
Brixton - Coldharbour Lane, London SW9 8PS
Up until now, Three Unclos have been mainly a takeaway operation, winning many fans of their Cantonese roasted meats in the process. This sees them launching their first proper restaurant and their amazing roasted duck, crispy pork belly and char siu BBQ pork will all be making an appearance.
Also opening in March
- Caia (Notting Hill) - a promising new wine bar
- Madhu’s Brasserie (Richmond) - After starting off in Harvey Nichols the Indian restaurant heads west
- Flesh and Buns (Kensington) - filled bao buns and all kinds of meat plus more Japanese izakaya and Nikkei-inspired dishes
- Mano Mayfair - More Nikkei cuisine, with MasterChef: The Professionals semi-finalist Luciana Berry in the kitchen
