Berenjak sets an opening date for bringing its Persian cuisine to Mayfair

After an initial small opening in Soho back in 2018, Berenjak really has hit the big time of late. Along with their Soho and Borough Market restaurants, they also have openings as far afield as Doha and Dubai and recently opened their first US restaurant in LA. We've known about their next London opening for a while, and now it seems they're finally getting ready to open the doors in Mayfair. 

The Mayfair restaurant (opening in a new development which hasn't been a restaurant before), takes up two floors. It'll be their largest in London to date, seating just over 50 people inside. And, as it's on a great corner site, it will also have space for 20 more outside. 

If you're unfamiliar with Berenjak, set up by chef Kian Samyani together with JKS (Hoppers, Gymkhana et al) they are specifically inspired by Tehran's kabab houses, reimagined for a family-style approach. To date, the smaller Soho restaurant has a mezze focus, while the Borough restaurant is more about larger sharing dishes. Both feature their signature kababs (like the Jujeh Kabab Tond, which is poussin marinated in chilli, with garlic, somagh and red pepper paste) - you can expect them to make an appearance in Mayfair. 

In addition, you can expect changes to the menu, with over 20 new dishes being introduced. The lunchtime menu specifically will take inspiration from homely, regional cuisine across Iran. We should have more details of those as we get closer to the opening date.

It'll also have their largest wine selection yet, mixing wines from both small growers and big producers, as well as English wines, with 20 wines available by the glass. Apparently, they've been acquiring wines by auction for the restaurant, and those will definitely speak to the Mayfair market. Expect a larger cocktail list here, as well as some new speciality teas. 

The opening date has been set to coincide with Nowruz, the first day of the Persian New Year. Obviously, opening a Persian restaurant during the current war in Iran is a tricky needle to thread, but Berenjak remains a very timely reminder of the very best that the country, its people and its cuisine have to offer.
