New and upcoming restaurants - May update

Coming SoonIt's time for another round up of the movers and shakers on our exhaustive new and upcoming restaurants list.

As you all know, dates are changing all the time and the amount of new restaurants being announced on a weekly basis is showing no sign of slowing down. We update our pages on a regular basis (sometime several times a day) with new (and shifting) dates, new restaurants, soft launch details and loads more.

This is our regular round-up (now monthly), to make sure you're all aware of the latest updates. And May's going to be a very big month for new openings.

The big ones to watch

Jason Atherton seems to be doing no wrong of late and there have already been some great reports from his latest restaurant-with a view, City Social, halfway up Tower 42 in the City. Even Benedict Cumberbatch turned up to that opening party. Open now.

Another high-rise opens next week as the Shangri-La finally throws open the doors at the Shard after a series of delays. We had a preview a few weeks ago and with its jaw-dropping views, they'll have the most sought after hotel rooms in London. The restaurant opens next week - with the highest bar in London following in July. Opens 6 May.

A contender for restaurant opening of the year is going to be Simon Rogan's Fera at Claridges. Expectation for the new Claridges restaurant has been at a fever pitch ever since Gordon Ramsay packed his bags. Rogan's never been hotter, and is coming off the back of a successful BBC series too. Expect this to be huge, and if you haven't booked, better do it now. Opens 6 May.

We had the opportunity to feast at Beast this week and it looks like being another winner from the people behind Goodman and Burger and Lobster - but don't expect it to be a cheap affair, with the steak and king crab coming to £75 a head. The room looks utterly magical. Opens 6 May.

Alain Ducasse not only has a book about London out this month (win a copy and lunch at his Dorchester restaurant here) but he also has a new restaurant, Rivea, opening at the Bulgari. With a three Michelin starred restaurant already under his belt, all eyes will be on him to see if he can pull it off again. Opens 13 May.

Plus - also watch out for...

The Palomar - with a couple of high rated Jerusalem chefs behind it, this was a very popular story on our site, so could be a big hit. Opens 19 May (with a soft launch to be announced).

Pavilion sees Adam Simmonds in place Executive Chef (he'll apparently be opening his own restaurant later this year). Opens 19 May.

Bilbao Berria from MasterChef's Ash Mair has been on the cusp of opening for a while, but this new Spanish restaurant looks well worth waiting for and should open this month. Opens early to mid May.

Blues Kitchen sees the Camden favourite head to Shoreditch. Opens 16 May.

Typing Room is the new restaurant at the Town Hall Hotel, with Lee Westcott taking over from Viajante's Nuno Mendes. Opens 16 May.

While the Islington restaurant scene continues to improve with Primeur. Opens 16 May.
