Updated 1/4/14 with details of dishes
We've known for a while that City Social was on the way, taking over the Tower 42 restaurant that used to be Rhodes 24 and then became an interim Anthony Demetre pop-up AD12. Now we're finally getting some details on what to expect from Jason Atherton's next. The news comes on a good day for Jason with the news that he's just been appointed an international ambassador for British food and drink by No.10 Downing Street.
It's the latest outpost of his "Social" empire, coming after the original Pollen Street Social, Little Social and Social Eating House. This latest addition will feature an art-deco design by Russell Sage (who did Grain Store, Social Eating House, Dishoom and more). He'll be making sure that all the tables in the 90 seat restaurant have good view from the 24th floor of Tower 42. Other than the view, the main focus will be the kitchen which will be right in the centre of the room - which will also have a chef's table close to the action.
The Head Chef is Paul Walsh who was previously Sous Chef at Gordon Ramsay at Royal Hospital Road and whose menu will "feature creative yet simple dishes, showcasing the best of British ingredients". Dishes on the menu will include:
- Heritage and heirloom tomato salad, burrata, chilled tomato consomme and frozen basil
- Roasted quail breast, peas and broad beans, pancetta and sauce diable
- English asparagus salad, pecorino cream cheese, soft poached hens egg , 2 year pecorino, bone marrow crumbs
- Strawberry soufflé, macerated strawberry salad, yoghurt sorbet
The Socials are known for their cocktails, so City Social will have a separate 85 seat bar, with "cocktails inspired by 1910-1930s prohibition era". There will be a focus on short, spirit based cocktails featuring Scotch and American whiskies, gins and cognacs - all created by mixologist Gareth Evans (who is head barman at The Blind Pig, the bar above Social Eating House).
It's bound to be a big hit when it opens later this year - and as ever, we do love a high-up dining room, and London's rapidly becoming the best place in the world to eat up high.
