Autumn's biggest new London restaurant openings

Autumn is when the London restaurant scene gets busier than ever - and that means some big new restaurants are getting ready to open. Here are the ones to watch...

 #

St John

Marylebone - 98 Marylebone Lane London W1U 2QA

It’s been almost two decades since Fergus Henderson and Trevor Gulliver last opened a restaurant, so the arrival of St John in Marylebone is A Very Big Deal. It's planned as an all-day spot, so if you’re after somewhere for doughnuts and Champagne in the morning and a nose-to-tail dinner in the evening, this will be the place to go.

When: First week of October 2022

 Straker's

Straker's

Notting Hill - 91 Golborne Rd, London W10 5PR

If the size of his following on social media is anything to go by, good luck trying to get a reservation at Thomas Straker’s eponymous restaurant when it opens in Notting Hill. His restaurant in Notting Hill will centre around sustainability and seasonality and we're sure to see some of his Tik-Tok hits on the menu.

When: October 2022

 The Audley

The Audley Public House and Mount St. Restaurant

Mayfair - 41-43 Mount St, London W1K 2RX

Both elements of this London opening by the Hauser & Wirth group will be worth checking out from the ground floor public house to the upstairs Mount St. Restaurant. Chef Jamie Shears has worked with everyone from Gordon to the Galvins and is promising a London-inspired menu.

When: The Audley at the end of September, Mount St. 5 October 2022

Joia

Joia

Battersea - 1 Electric Boulevard, Nine Elms, London SW11 8BJ

The crown jewel of the latest phase of Battersea Power Station, this sees acclaimed chef Portuguese Henrique Sá Pessoa (who has a two-Michelin starred restaurant in Lisbon) taking up the prime position on the 15th floor of the building. Here you can expect the best British, Spanish and Portuguese produce, with a focus on seafood, pork and rice - and soon after opening it'll have a rooftop bar that's also sure to be incredibly popular.

 Frantzen at Harrods

Studio Frantzén

Knightsbridge - 87-135 Brompton Rd, London SW1X 7XL

He’s No 25 on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list and has three Michelin stars at his Stockholm and Singapore restaurants so it’ll be interesting to see what Björn Frantzén has planned for his restaurant inside Harrods. There’s precious little information out there at the moment, all we know is it’ll be “a state-of-the-art flagship restaurant in a prime location within the Knightsbridge store”.

When: Autumn 2022

 Elis

Elis

Bethnal Green - Town Hall Hotel, Patriot Square, London E2 9NF

Chef Rafael Cagali is sticking close to home with his second London restaurant, opening it in the same building that currently houses his two-Michelin-starred restaurant, Da Terra. Elis will have an Italian/Brazilian approach and be a more casual affair as well as having a wine list by the Noble Rot team.

When: Autumn 2022

Bacchanalia

Bacchanalia

Mayfair - Connaught House, 1-3 Mount Street, London W1K 3NB

Restaurateur Richard Caring doesn’t do anything low-key and you can expect the opening of his new Mayfair restaurant to be big on the glitz and A-list factors. They’re billing it as a “breath-taking feast for the senses”. Just across Berkeley Square from another of his big hits, Sexy Fish, it should certainly be eye-popping.

When: Late 2022

 Rambutan

Rambutan

Borough - 10 Stoney Street, London SE1 9AD

As the first British-Sri Lankan female chef to open a restaurant in central London Cynthia Shanmugalingam's Borough Market opening will be worth paying close attention to. Taking over the old Konditor & Cook site this will serve up village-style Sri Lankan food as well as some of the soft-serve ice cream from her summer pop-up.

When: October 2022

 Cycene

Cycene

Shoreditch - 9 Chance St, London E2 7JB

This new restaurant at Blue Mountain School in Shoreditch sees chef Theo Clench (Akoko, Portland) taking the reins of what used to be Maos. It's a single-menu restaurant and promises to be quite the experience beginning with cocktails downstairs before moving to the upstairs dining room.

Scott’s

Scott’s

Richmond - 4 Whittaker Avenue, Richmond, Surrey TW9 1EH

Perched right on the riverside at Richmond, this new outpost of celebrity hangout Scott’s is promising to bring extra glamour - along with groaning fruits de mer platters - to South West London. This is the first time the Scott's name has been used outside of the original, so it'll be interesting to see how the restaurant translates to West London.

When: 26 September 2022
