11/11/22 - Updated with the opening date
With the opening of London’s first art’otel comes details of what one of the restaurants will be in the hotel's Battersea Power Station site, and it’s good news for fans of Portuguese food. Alongside Italian restaurant Tozi will be their signature restaurant. On the 15th floor of the Grade-II-listed building that be an Iberian-themed restaurant called JOIA from acclaimed chef Henrique Sá Pessoa, owner of two-Michelin-starred Alma in Lisbon, as well as tapas venue Tapisco.
This is not Sá Pessoa’s first rodeo in London by any means; his career essentially started here, working in the Park Lane Hotel in Piccadilly until 1999, followed by stints in Sydney, Australia (Sheraton on the Park) before returning to his native Portugal in 2002.
Dishes will feature the best British, Spanish and Portuguese produce, with a focus on seafood, pork and rice, such as:
- Salted cod crudo, pickled onions, tomatoes and olive oil caviar
- Grilled carabineiro, orzo bisque, tomato and coriander
Before dinner here, you might like to start on the hotel's 14th floor, with a reconnaissance of the curated vermouth selection in the JOIA bar, which will also feature Portuguese and Spanish wines. Afterwards, perhaps a chaser on the rooftop bar admiring the views from the infinity pool. Either way, if you are craving giant scarlet carabineros without the airport hassle, this sounds like the place.
