4/10/22 - updated with the opening date
Chef Rafael Cagali is already running the two Michelin-starred restaurant Da Terra at the Town Hall Hotel in Bethnal Green. And from this autumn, he'll be taking over the hotel's second restaurant (which used to be Corner Room). The new restaurant will be called Elis and should be a more casual spot serving up "a relaxed interpretation of Rafael’s Brazilian-Italian heritage".
As anyone who knows us is aware, vitello tonnato is a trigger dish for us, so the fact that it's going to be on Elis's menu already makes us warm to the place. Other dishes will include:
- Bolinho de bacalhau
- Crab tagliolini verde
- Baby monkfish tail with black tucupi glaze
The wine side of things is being taken care of by the Noble Rot team (another plus-point there) and the list will be pretty short with around 10-12 bottles on offer and five or six of those available by the glass.
"We will be serving more rustic dishes, with a selection of elegant snacks and good wines," says Rafael, adding that Elis will draw "on everything from my favourite street food to family meal celebration dishes that my grandma used to make."
