Test Driving the new Fallow breakfast - starting the day like royalty

ALTThe sunny dining room at Fallow's a good choice for breakfast - and there's also a wraparound terrace if the weather's good.

What's so exciting about a new breakfast menu?

If you haven't been on social, in particular TikTok, recently then you may have failed to spot one of Hot Dinners readers' favourite London restaurants totally changing the stakes. Fallow are kicking ass on social, and it was one of their videos about a brunch dish that really propelled them into the social stratosphere - the TikTok has upwards of 300k views while the reel has seen more than 400k drooling over it. The dish in question was one of their royales, a croissant breakfast roll and people bloody loved it.

The royales, along with their other brunch options, were only available at the weekends - up until now. Fallow have just opened for breakfast service during the week which not only gives fans more chances to try the royales but also allowed the kitchen to add in a whole load more options.

This seemed like a good time to go and check it out.

Where is it?

You'll find Fallow on the corner of Haymarket and St James's Market. The nearest tube is Piccadilly.

When is it open for breakfast?

Breakfast is now served Monday to Friday from 7.30am to 10.30am. If you can only make it down for brunch then that's every Saturday between 10am and 4pm.

ALTWe're impressed/scared by anyone who manages an Iced Tequila Coffee first thing...

What are the new options to look for?

There are three main additions to the menu that are worth checking out. The Fallow Full (£24) runs the gamut of breakfast items including smoked bacon, black pudding, sausages, mushrooms, hash browns, eggs, bubble and Nutbourne tomatoes. Usefully, if that all sounds a bit too epic a way to start the day, you can also option for a Fallow Half (£14).

There's also a 'No Avo' dish, in keeping with the restaurant's sustainability ethos, made using courgettes, crushed English peas with smoked curds, eggs and toasted sourdough.

We gave two of the other new dishes a go:

ALTThe Black Pudding Benedict (£18) featuring a fermented malted honey waffle, bacon, poached eggs and black pepper hollandaise

ALTSteak and eggs (£22) - UK ex-dairy cow served with two fried eggs and a piquant red pepper sauce with plenty of watercress.

Along with one of those royales we'd been hearing so much about...

ALTSalmon belly Royale (£16) - a crispy croissant sandwich filled with thick slices of salmon belly with crème fraîche, spinach loads of hollandaise and a fried egg.

What about if you don't want to slip into a food coma so early in the day...?

There are plenty of less full-on options like the newly-introduced Bircher muesli served with Yorkshire rhubarb and native grains or maybe the Fallow granola which comes with Northiam yoghurt and London honey.

Overall thoughts:

There's no point going viral on social if your food doesn't live up to the optics. Thankfully, in the case of Fallow, they do. This would be a great place to take a client who really cares about the food they eat at a breakfast meeting, or if you just want to start any weekday on a high. Be warned though - your day will be all downhill from here.
