Southwark's Chinese Food Festival returns with a 14 vendors in a night market setting

It sure is festival season, isn’t it? (And we don’t just mean Boomtown, Wilderness et al.)

We’d only just gotten over WingFest, before starting to gear up for Espresso Martini Fest, London Brunch Fest and PX+ Festival. Now, here’s the news that the Chinese Food Festival is back, returning to Southwark’s little haven of green, Potters Field Park.

This time, they'll be packing it out with 14 London vendors representing five of China’s provinces with their authentic Chinese cuisine.

With a collective 50 dishes between them, you’ll definitely be spoiled for choice, but we think you should make a beeline for the spicy chilli oil Xiaomian noodles, served up by Brick Lane’s Liu XiaomianAnd maybe think about saving room for the rose ice jelly with Yunnan roses and dried hawthorn, from KERB’s Yun.

Some of the other dishes you can sample include:

  • Wuhan Chilli Oil Braised Crayfish from Chilli Legend
  • Charred traditional Cantonese Char Sui from Ekachai
  • Jiang bing pancakes from Pleasant Lady
  • Sweet Taiwanese ‘Wheel Cakes’ from Wheelcake Island (which look amazing

On hand for refreshment will be a Cobra and Snow Beer bar, and a Baijiu bar serving the traditional Chinese spirit.

While you’re there, you could also take in a quick cookery lesson from the Lee Kum Kee Chinese Kitchen in how to make BBQ chicken bao, or attend one of the other workshops.

The event will be themed around China’s night markets, or yè shì, and will be open for trading throughout the day.
