Now that the whole of London is stuck indoors, it's up to the city's food shops to do the heavy lifting. We've gathered together some of London's best butchers, cheesemongers, grocers and more making home deliveries during the lockdown.
This Camden Market grocery store stocks all manner of groceries, fresh produce, award-winning meats and cheeses and booze. So you can buy some Bermondsey honey to drizzle on a toasted loaf from Bread Ahead and put a bottle of Gusbourne Rose in the fridge to chill for later.

Before the crisis, the only ones who could get their hands on all of Natoora’s gorgeous fruit & veg were in the hospitality trade. But, for now, they’ve opened it out to all Londoners. Here you’ll find everything from cultured butter from the Estate Dairy to cold-pressed rapeseed oil from Hertfordshire and Cornish salad leaves.

Everyone from Alain Ducasse at the Dorchester to Hide uses these guys - Nieves Barragan from Sabor calls founder Maurice “one of the best fresh suppliers I’ve ever met.” Weekly hamper selections include super seasonal veg like Pertuis Asparagus and they have a Himalayan salt ageing room to age their meat.

There are 40+ market stallholders signed up to their online delivery service. So, in one virtual shopping basket, you could include Pieminster pies, Neals Yard cheeses, jamon from Brindisa and bottles of beer from The Globe Tavern.

This social enterprise works with artisan producers to use "the products that would otherwise be discarded due to supply and demand imbalances or failed aesthetic standards" - so juices from wonky fruit or brownies made with surplus beetroot pulp. Online deliveries include sourdough, fruit & veg, pasta and more.

Both Mercato Metropolitan in Elephant & Castle and Mercato Mayfair are doing delivery and collection. Choose from hot dishes from a range of their traders like a steak sandwich the Argentinian Grill or a King Crab burger from Molo Grill or browse for groceries instead including pasta, sauces, fresh organic fruit and veg and cleaning products.
Delivery: Groceries within an 8-mile radius of SE1 6DR and W1K 6ZA. Hot dishes within a 2-mile radius and you can also click and collect from both locations.
If you’re looking for a fruit & veg service that puts sustainability at the heart of what it does, then this weekly box service is the one for you. They say they’ve closed the loop of food waste to fresh produce, collecting 2500 tonnes of food waste and (before Covid) supplied fresh produce to some of the very best restaurants in London. A veg and staples box combines your five-a-day along with bread, eggs and milk.

Les Filles cafe & deli in Lancaster Gate has become a grocery delivery service with a range of fruit and veg boxes on offer as well as essential items.
Fredrick Lindfors, master fishmonger and champion oyster-shucker, formerly of Kensington Place Fish shop is behind this West London fishmonger which delivers whole turbot, prawns, otoro tuna - you name it. They’ve recently teamed up with Natoora, Hedone, Yashin Sushi and HG Walter so you can pretty much get everything you need, delivered from here.
Delivery: Just West London for now but with plans to expand to Central London soon
Founder Max Bergius originally hails from the west coast of Scotland, but trained up at Billingsgate and now smokes and hand fillets fish from his base in London Fields. You can buy everything from fish pie mix, to kippers, London smoked trout and smoked salmon pate.
Delivery: Their electric van delivers to E1, E2, N1, N16 and they’ll do Parcelforce 24 hour delivery for everywhere else.
Based in Gloucestershire, but having built up a business selling their gorgeous sashimi cut smoked salmon to top restaurants like Le Gavroche and Bibendum, the three Italian friends behind this artisan smoked fish company are now selling direct to the public. Even better, they're big on sustainability with 100% plastic free packaging.
Delivery: Delivery in zone 1 and 2 is free and they do next day delivery with Royal Mail across the UK.
Owner Patricia Michelson opened her first London cheese shop in Highbury in the early nineties. Now she runs three stores - in Highbury, Marylebone and Bloomsbury - all selling farmhouse and artisanal cheeses from across Europe. Assemble your own box, or opt for one of their prepared cheeseboards, including those celebrating female cheesemakers and French classics.

These North London cheesemakers were inspired by their Cypriot heritage to come up with the wonderful Anglum - a halloumi style cheese made with Jersey cow and sheep's milk and Fettle - a Feta style cheese which is hand made and batch fermented in barrels. Their Kupros Essentials package includes all manner of treats including their own Anglum cheese, sourdough from Holtwhites and stoneground flour from Duchess Farms.

This superlative cheesemonger doesn’t really need an introduction - they’ve been celebrating British and Irish cheese since the seventies. You can put together your own cheese boxes, or they’ve a new dairy box for delivery which also features Little Pedlar bread, Cacklebean eggs and more.

One of London’s oldest cheesemongers, the Jermyn Street shop has been selling its wares for over 200 years and holds two royal warrants, supplying to both the Queen and Prince Charles. Expect to find, “the very best in British and Continental cheese made by master cheesemakers”.

A true London cheesemaker in every sense of the word - they make their cheeses on an industrial estate in Tottenham, and every cheese starts with milk from a single herd of cows from a farm in Rye, East Sussex. The range includes Rebellion, a semi-soft washed rind cheese and Londonshire - a soft and runny cheese made from Jersey milk. Make your own cheese selection or pick from one of theirs.

When Hawksmoor’s executive chef is one half of the butchery team, you know that what you’re going to find at this Angel butcher will be top quality. Their shop sells meat from British native breeds reared on independent farms and smallholdings - it’s aged in house and they make their own sausages and burgers too. Here you’ll find ex-dairy Basque beef, mutton chops and chicken oyster legs.

Australian-born butcher Nathan Mills is all about nose to tail butchery - there’s no waste here. You’ll find cuts you may not be familiar with so it’s great for expanding your recipe repertoire. Popular Peckham butcher Flock and Herd prides itself on its close ties with its suppliers, all of whom are farms in or around the home counties. They have two meat boxes on offer for local delivery which cover all manner of carnivorous needs including sausages, chicken thighs, dry-cured bacon and more.

The ethos of The Ginger Pig is simple: “livestock that is looked after well in the field simply tastes better on the plate.” This butcher with shops across London has longstanding links with the farmers that supply it, oh and they make cracking sausage rolls in-house too.

The celebrated chef and Notting Hill deli owner is now packaging up his gorgeous food for home delivery. Right now there’s wild garlic soup, sugo di salsicce for pasta and - wait for it - salted muscovado butter caramels and more to choose from.

Catering company Social Pantry which helps ex-offenders move on with their lives by employing them as chefs is pivoting to a delivery service. They're putting together breakfast, lunch or dinner packs with all you need to make several days worth of that meal.

If you're after a meal delivery service that works with independent restaurants (like Leggaro and Clapham's Common) and gives back to society that this is the one for you. Despite the name - which sounds a bit like a protein bar - the company sends out nutritious meal boxes along with fruit & veg boxes and dried good hampers. You can even send a care hamper to someone you know is self-isolating.
