Updated 20/8/24 with opening date

Two decades after winning a Michelin star for his eponymous restaurant in Twickenham, chef John McClements has come out of retirement to launch a new French bistro in Richmond. Mignonette is the latest venture for the chef and restaurateur who is also behind the South West London group Ma Cuisine.

It's taken over the old Restaurant 109 site and there'll be room for 30 diners along with a private dining room downstairs.

In good news for locals, one of the key things that Mignonette says it's aiming for is a restaurant experience that won't break the bank. Serving modern French food the menu we're told "will see sustainable ingredients at the fore and a heavy focus on affordability".

The menu mixes classic French options like stuffed pig's trotter and ox cheek bordelaise with twists on dishes like duck fat brioche with liver parfait and durian fruit mille-feuille or Shaoxing wine-poached drunken chicken and morel terrine.
