Lenny's Apizza is introducing New Haven-style pizza to Finsbury Park

Lenny's Apizza is bringing New Haven-style pizza to Finsbury Park

Islington is about to get a very interesting new pizzeria as Lenny's Apizza kicks off a long-term residency in The Bedford Tavern on Seven Sisters Road.

Set up by Max Lewis, this will be all about New Haven-style pizza. We'll be honest and say that our pizza knowledge isn't quite on-point in this regard, but it's something that originated in New Haven Connecticut, specifically at Frank Pepe Pizzeria in 1925 (one of the USA's most well-known pizzerias and still going strong today).

Nicknamed "apizza" (hence Lenny's name) the pizzas are left in the oven longer to produce a charred (yet also chewy) crust with a big focus on more tomato and less cheese, with tomato pies being a big thing. So far in London, Crisp are the closest to this style, as are Gracey's out in St Alban's.

A tomato pie will be on the menu, of course, alongside cheese & tomato and sausage & onion pies while specials include "Handsome Dan's Potato pie".

Max has been on pilgrimages to New Haven to research and perfect the pizzas, so we could be in for something very special here. Could this be London's next pizza obsession? We'll find out soon.
