It's all change over in Fleet Street where one of the area's best-known buildings, which used to house The Telegraph, is being transformed into a modern mix of offices and restaurants. The Telegraph Building, which is now being called the Peterborough Building, was built in the 1880s but given a very Art Deco makeover in the 1920s. The new name, taken from its address on Peterborough Court, matches the newspaper's longstanding political Peterborough diary which was also named after this spot.
Back to restaurants, the reason we're telling you about this at all is that the owner Regis Group has gone into partnership with the Emerald Hospitality Group to run the three restaurants there. The brothers behind it, Arian and Alberto Zandi, also own Como Garden and Zuaya in Kensington and Riviera and El Norte in Mayfair. So it's fair to say they know about running glitzy restaurants.
The duo are bringing three separate restaurants to the development, all being designed by Lazaro Rosa Violan Studio, who were behind Amazonico in Mayfair, and Soho House Barcelona. Here's what you need to know about each of them.
Casa Como - This is a ground-floor restaurant, a diffusion line if you will of Como Garden. There'll be a restaurant, a salumeria (that's an Italian deli to you and me) a bar and a big old terrace.
Everything on Fire - The seventh-floor steakhouse, this is all about live fire cooking with a central open kitchen complete with a centrepiece clay grill.
Dining on the Clouds - Up on the building's eighth and ninth floors this is a Japanese fusion restaurant. There's going to be a sushi counter and robata grill. The ninth floor boasts a decent size terrace which will be a bar and lounge.
All in all, it sounds like quite the endeavour and with more and more banks and financial firms moving back into the City of London from Canary Wharf it sounds like the City is going to be the place to be.
