Hang onto your ceviche, London’s favourite Peruvian restaurant is about to open a third site. LIMA Shoreditch will take wings inside the Sun Street Hotel, which opened in late 2022. We told you about the hotel’s previous restaurant when it launched. The hotel’s partnership with LIMA is significant news. LIMA has come a long way since its first restaurant opened in Fitzrovia in 2012 with a big name behind it: executive chef Virgilio Martínez (his Central restaurant in Lima was number one on the World’s 50 Best List in 2023) alongside the Gonzalez brothers Gabriel & José Luís. It was the world’s first Peruvian restaurant to win a Michelin star.
A second outlet – LIMA Floral – arrived in Covent Garden in 2014 before relaunching as LIMA Cantina in 2023.
East London’s first outlet of LIMA will feature an "eye-catching" emerald-green and aquamarine in the restaurant décor, an outside terrace and potential private dining spaces. And while chef Virgilio parted ways with LIMA in 2018, its longstanding executive chef Roberto Sihuay will spearhead the new venture’s menu.
If you’ve dined at any of the LIMAs, you’ll know to expect primarily native Peruvian ingredients from LIMA Shoreditch, along with a touch of Japanese and Chinese influences (Nikkei/Chifa) as well as traditional Peruvian dishes. Dishes on the menu include:
- Gambas and bluefin tuna tiradito with tuna tataki, gambas, rocotto tiger’s milk, avocado
- Peking Duck croqueta with aji amarillo bechamel
- Cornish crab causa with aji Amarillo potato, botija olives, cevichera sauce, avocado, capers
- Alfajores with dulce de leche, lime ice cream
The drinks list also has a Peruvian slant. If nursing a Pisco Sour is your way of forgetting about England’s Euro 2024 football final result, then so be it.
