CDMX tacos sees Soho getting a Mexico City-style taqueria

cdmx tacos opens in the heart of london's soho

Remember last year when Supernova opened its doors in Soho with a seriously pared-back aesthetic and menu, and was an immediate hit? Well, a new place with similar vibes has just opened in the next street to them and are hoping to be an equally runaway success. CDMX Tacos is the name and it's taken over the old Yalla Yalla site tucked away down Green's Court.

As the name suggests, the hole-in-the-wall spot focuses on tacos and quesadillas. Menu options for each are al pastor (marinated pork), chicharron (crispy pork belly), asada (grilled beef) and nopal (grilled cactus). You can also add chips with either salsa or guac to your order, or potatoes with crema. All of the tacos are served on hand-pressed corn tortillas with fresh salsa made in-house daily. The drinks list is an equally edited selection of Mexican coke, jarritos and three beer options - Victoria, Dos Equis and Modello.

It does look good - we reckon you'll be seeing it and its tacos all over Insta in the coming weeks and months. The man behind it is Billy Sengupta who recently moved back to London from Mexico City, where he was working as global head of luxury tequila at Diageo. Having fallen head over heels with Mexico City and its legendary street taco offering he wanted to bring some of that back with him to London.

"CDMX Tacos is more than just a taqueria," he says, "it’s the fast-moving, loud, vibrant atmosphere that is ingrained within the taco culture of Mexico City." To that end this is mainly a grab-and-go spot, although you can also stand at one of their counters with your tacos and a beer.
