10/2/24 - updated with opening details
After opening the last Ottolenghi in Hampstead, the group are going much further west with the next due to open in Richmond.
However, unlike their other openings, this one hasn't gone quite as smoothly. Initially, the residents of Richmond aren't too happy with all the eating and drinking establishments in their part of town, and decided to put up something of a fight and objected to the new arrival. Ottolenghi won through in the end, promising not to contribute to any "alcohol-fuelled disorder" in the area. If anyone's ever been to another of their branches, it's clear that this will be a very easy promise to keep.
As for what to expect from the Richmond opening, don't expect it to stray too far from the usual theme. It will be an all-day affair, starting with buttermilk pancakes and Ottolenghi Shakshuka at breakfast. Salads will be added throughout the day, like roasted aubergine with caponata and cashew cream, and they'll be adding some new salads just for Richmond. And, of course, expect plenty of cakes and pastries to take away.
They'll also be introducing a catering element here, so if any locals want to have plenty of Ottolenghi salads at their parties, that's something you can organise here.
Of the opening, Yotam Ottolenghi said "It took longer than we expected, but we are finally here! In picturesque Richmond, the happiest place to live in London, I hear. I love walking along the river in the summer and I can't wait to be here in all seasons, get to know the local crowd and feed them some seriously delicious salads and cakes."
