The most Christmassy Christmas decorations in London's restaurants

If you want to go somewhere that can't fail to give even the most Grinchiest Londoner all the festive feels, these London restaurants and pubs really understood the assignment this Christmas.

Homeboy Islington Christmas grotto

Islington - 108 Essex Rd, London N1 8LX

The whole of Islington pub Homeboy has gone OTT on the Christmas decos this year, but it's the hidden pub at the back you need to seek out for extra Christmas cheer. Dubbed London's smallest Irish pub, it's been turned into a grotto in collaboration with Hennessy for the festive season. There's a special five drinks menu which includes the Hennessy Hot Chocolate made with Hennessy VS Cognac, Demerara Sugar, Oat Milk, Hot Chocolate and Cream.

Kensington - 112 Draycott Ave, London SW3 3AE

Festooned would be the right word to use here; the sheer batty quantity of baubles that have gone into making the Kensington's restaurant's conservatory Christmassy truly boggles. Order yourself an Italian Hot Toddy from their festive cocktail menu and enjoy!

EL&N Brompton Road

EL&N Brompton Road

Knightsbridge - 239 Brompton Rd, London SW3 2EP

All year long the Elan cafes are united in their Elle Woods level devotion to the colour pink. For Christmas, they've kept that and channelled it at their Brompton Road store into a display inspired by Duncan's Toy Chest from Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.

 Sushi Samba Covent Garden

Sushi Samba Covent Garden

Covent Garden - 35 The Market, London WC2E 8RF

The living ceiling at Sushi Samba's WC2 operation has been made super Christmassy with the arrival of oversized Christmas baubles. Book brunch here for their Kobe beef benedicts and pity the frazzled shoppers below in the piazza who didn't have your foresight.

Mayfair - 20 Mount St, London W1K 2HE

Celebrities taking to the terrace at Scott's in Mayfair can feast their eyes on the new winter display the seafood spot has put up in collaboration with Champagne house Perrier Jouet. It's all very Art Deco with a huge man in the moon at the restaurant entrance.

Wandsworth - Wandsworth Bridge Road, London SW6 2TY

If your taste for all things Christmassy leans towards Narnia then the Alpine Lodge at this Wandsworth alfresco space (not to be confused with Winter Wonderland) is the place for you. The rows of faux fur-throw covered spaces go on for what seems like miles. Order up fondue and pigs in blankets and settle in for the night.

 The Churchill Arms

The Churchill Arms

Kensington - 119 Kensington Church St, London W8 7LN

Why go with one paltry Christmas tree when you can strap almost a hundred to the outside of your pub instead? Very much of the 'more is more' school of design, this Kensington pub is an Instagram dream every Christmas.

Mayfair - Brook Street, London W1K 4HR

You can always rely on this Mayfair Grande Dame hotel to turn out a beautifully tasteful Christmas decoration scheme and this year's is particularly lovely. There are doorways with wintry arbours, papercut lanterns and a showstopper in their Dior Christmas tree whose light display throws stars all over the hotel's lobby. Magical.

Clos Maggiore

Clos Maggiore

Covent Garden - 33 King St, London WC2E 8JD

The main dining room at this most romantic of London restaurants has had quite the Christmas makeover, stripping out the usual floral boughs and replacing them with twinkling garlands of baubles instead. Add to that the roaring fire and you've got a totally festive scene.

Mayfair - 9 Conduit St, London W1S 2XG

Don't come here if you're looking for something suitable for a Hallmark movie backdrop - this year Sketch's Christmas installation has gone for a neon Vegas theme instead. Inside you'll find pine trees alongside palm trees and arcade machines.

Duck & Waffle

Duck & Waffle

City - 110 Bishopsgate, London EC2N 4AY

High rise City restaurant Duck & Waffle have quite literally transformed the restaurant and bar into a scene from the classic Christmas movie The Polar Express. The bar has become the ticket kiosk and waiting room but it's the main dining room where the decoration has made a real difference. That's now become a wood-panelled train car with all the windows made to look like you're on the train rather than 40 floors up in the sky.

Mayfair - 46 Berkeley Square, London W1J 5AT

We have to make a special mention for Annabel's. Each year they must have a committee that gathers together to rack their brains working out how in God's name they're going to top last year's seasonal extravaganza. While most Londoners don't possess the membership that allows you entry, there's nothing to stop you heading to Berkeley Square to gawp at the massive gingerbread house that's taken over their frontage and wonder how on earth they got the permission to put it up.
