Breeding like…well, rabbits, the next London site for Four Hundred Rabbits Pizza has just been announced and it’s another win for South London; it’s in Battersea Rise. Already operating outlets in Crystal Palace, the Brockwell Lido in Herne Hill and most recently in Elephant & Castle (among others), Four Hundred Rabbits is renowned for its traditional 100% sourdough base pizzas (certified by the Real Bread Campaign) and high-quality ingredients. These pizzas involve a careful fermentation process across three days without any yeast, which is good news for your digestion, but still produces a tangy taste and a fluffy yet crisp pizza-base texture.
The Battersea Rise site will be home to 55 covers and an outdoor terrace and will serve their ‘hutch-made’ seasonal gelatos and sorbets (it’s the weather for Alphonso mango flavour, but salted caramel and peanut equally sound tempting) along with popular pizza favourites, such as the following.
- The Chorizo: Brindisa Iberico Chorizo, pickled red chillies, fresh basil, tomato and mozzarella
- The Rhubarb: chipotle rolled goats cheese, piquillo peppers, tomato, mozzarella and rhubarb
- The Feta: mozzarella, courgette, feta, salsa verde, toasted pine nuts
If you’re wondering about the name behind the venue, it’s a nod to an Aztec folklore story that involves a goddess of alcohol and a god of fermentation procreating to produce 400 party-loving rabbit gods who were fond of drinks and mischief. We’re not making it up. It’s worth discussing with them over a frozen margarita or a real-fruit slushie. There’s craft beer from local breweries and natural wines too.
