New Italian restaurant 64 Old Compton Street to open in Soho

New Italian restaurant 64 Old Compton Street to open in Soho

Struggling to find somewhere in Soho to eat on a sultry summer’s evening but everything is fully booked? Got a friend who can never find the restaurant location? We can help with both of these things, because we bring you news of a new dining destination that is helpfully the same name as its address: 64 Old Compton Street.

It’s a sister site to 40 Dean Street (they’re on a winning formula with the names), which has been a much-loved Soho institution for almost 15 years, and is located just around the corner. Just like its sibling venue, 64 Old Compton Street will also serve classic Italian food at cost-of-living-friendly prices.

If you’re not already buzzing with anticipation for London Pride, you’ll know we’re talking about a prime spot in the crux of London’s ‘gay village’, so while the Soho streets will be buzzing, 64 Old Compton Street the restaurant aims to bring the relaxing and homely vibes with just a touch of mischief, courtesy of owner Nima Safei (declaring the venue as ‘proudly gay-owned’) who both lives and works in Soho and has designed the venue. He’s gone with a nod to New York nightclub Studio 54 (check the startling red fascia with the gold-and-black logo) and a swish cafe curtain that mysteriously half-hides the dark-blue dining room dotted with antiques.

The pastas and stone-baked pizzas are made fresh in-house daily, and the menu – neatly divided into Cold, Fritti & Baked; Pizzas & Salads; Pasta, Risotto & Oven – will include the following.

  • Linguine tiger prawns, courgettes, garlic, chillies, white wine
  • Pizza nduja, sausage meat, buffalo mozzarella
  • Chicken Milanese, spaghetti tomato and basil sauce, rocket and lemon
  • White pizza, wild mushroom and truffles
  • Baked portobello mushroom, sun-dried tomatoes, pomegranate salad

Yes, there are desserts, pistachio tiramisu or vanilla ice-cream affogato with amaretto would be ones we might not share. There are also most definitely Negronis and other classic Italian cocktails on the menu, as well as necessary-sounding house creations, such as the Refuel Martini (watermelon juice, sugar syrup and Stolichnaya vodka). On top of that, all bottles from the (Italian and French) wine list are priced below £50.
