17/2/23 - updated with launch details
Slightly out of nowhere, a big-name chef is getting ready to open his own restaurant in London.
Gouqi (pronounced Goji) comes from chef Tong Chee Hwee who, after originally building his career in Singapore, came to London to become head chef at Hakkasan in 2001. He followed that with the opening of Yauatcha (both with Alan Yau) and then became Executive Chef of the whole Hakkasan group in 2010. He then opened HKK before moving on from Hakkasan in 2019, and we can only assume he's been building up to this new solo opening.
However, even though the opening of the restaurant seems imminent - we actually know very little about it at this time other than to expect "innovative contemporary Chinese cuisine". We're expecting something at least similar to Hakkasan, but we'll be on the look out for more news and updates as soon as we get it.
