They already have two other Belgravia pubs, but gastropub group Cubitt House clearly love the area as they're already making plans for a third. Next up to get the group's attention is the old post office on Eccleston Street.
Plans are already afoot to turn the former post office into The Duke of Connaught pub and hotel. The name is a reference to the building's use during the early part of the 20th century, when it was The Duke of Connaught’s Soldiers & Sailors Home with bedrooms, a bar and a billiard room.
If permission is granted, the new pub will feature a bar on the ground and lower ground floors, a restaurant up on the first floor and then 10 boutique hotel rooms on the floors above that.
As for the food, with Chef Director Ben Tish in charge you can expect an all-day service. They're planning a pretty full-on breakfast offering, including mixed grill, steak eggs and green sauce and a Duke of Connaught Full English. The rest of the menu is expected to focus on a chophouse grill offering with steak, grilled whole fish and more. Down in the pub, there will be breakfast scotch eggs and obviously there will be a proper Sunday roast.
There's no firm opening date on this, as plans are still in motion, but all being well, we reckon it'll be the summer. We'll bring you more news on this as we get it.
