Claridge’s open an ArtSpace Café with lobster crepes and Champagne to go

If, like us, you've been glued to the TV watching the documentary about Claridge's massive renovation you'll probably be interested to hear that on top of new spa and bedrooms they've just opened up a brand new place to eat. The ArtSpace Café on the ground floor has its own entrance behind the hotel on Brook’s Mews and aims to entice Mayfair folk in for breakfast and lunch.

The hotel's Executive Pastry Chef Thibault Hauchard is responsible for the patisserie that's going to be hard to resist. On the menu will be everything from a caramel Saint Honoré to pistachio Paris-Brest. We really like the sound of the Claridge’s Crest Cake - a rendition of the hotel's coat of arms in chocolate, and if you're looking for a must-have cake for an office party then the Mega Mayfair Madeleine is obviously the thing to buy.

In addition to cakes and pastries, savoury options on the menu will include:

  • Seafood Cocktail Crepe - native lobster, white crab meat, lettuce and quail’s egg with Marie-Rose sauce and topped with caviar
  • Veggie Reuben – a rye sandwich featuring aubergine which has been brined, marinated for 12 hours in soy, deep fried and then dehydrated before being topped with sauerkraut, cocktail sauce and grated horseradish
  • Claridge’s croque madame on homemade sourdough topped with a Clarence Court fried egg.

For drinks, they're serving up coffee by Cornish Origin Coffee along with chai lattes and hot chocolate made by dunking blocks of chocolate in hot milk. But we're going to swing by for the takeaway Champagne served in paper cups.

The space itself is (obviously) beautiful, having been designed by ultra minimalist designer John Pawson with cutlery hidden away in drawers in the Carrara marble tables.
