A Hot Dinners exclusive
Wahlburgers was in Covent Garden for a fleeting moment, and ever since its closure we've been wondering who would be taking over that prime Covent Garden space. Now we have the answer - it's Sunda Kitchen.
Sunda Kitchen is a South East Asian restaurant and after a little digging, we've discovered it's got some very interesting people behind it. First up is Jamie Younger, who's behind the Begging Bowl in Peckham and also the successful Perry Hill pub relaunch in Catford. He's joined by Grant Neave, mixologist, brand ambassador and co-founder of Twenty Light Spirits along with Adam Papa who's also co-owner of Happiness Forgets and Ever After in Shoreditch.
As for what's on offer, it's a combination of snacks and small/large plates with the menu including:
- Thai KFC Cauliflower with Tamarind Mayo
- Vietnamese Jelly Fish Salad with Pickled Fennel & Chilli Salad
- Malaysian Red Chicken Curry with Seasonal Vegetables
- Whole fried Sea Bass with Mango Salad Pla Krapong Tod Nam Pla
- Sambal Oelek Aubergine with Grilled chilli, pickled mushroom
- Banana Fritter Speedboat with Coconut ice cream, chocolate sauce
For the drinks menu, the Twenty Light folk have been concentrating on pre-batched cocktails with the aim to serve cocktails as close to the quality of Happiness Forgets as possible, to a much bigger crowd. They include a Bubble Tea Bellini with lychee 'caviar', Prosecco & peach schnapps and a Thai Negroni with lemongrass gin, coconut Campari & sweet vermouth.
They certainly sound like they'll be making good use of the huge new kitchen that Wahlburgers barely put to work and should be well worth checking out if you're in the area.
