24/8/22 - updated with the opening date
Temper, the steak and barbecue restaurant that has places in The City, Soho and Covent Garden is getting ready to open its fourth restaurant - this time in Shoreditch.
It'll be taking over the space left by The Jones Family Project and will be pretty familiar if you've been to one of the other Tempers.
Originally launched by Neil Rankin (he's since moved onto other things) and now with a menu header up by Chef Director David Lagonell, Temper is these days mainly about steak plus barbecue and tacos (the cheeseburger tacos remain excellent).
There are new dishes for Shoreditch too, including:
- Smoked brisket, pit-roasted clam, anchovy and beef fat mayonnaise taco
- Whole duck carnitas – a mix of duck meat, offal and crispy skin with pickled kumquats and fresh chillies, served on a homemade paratha
- Smoked rare-breed beef rib with a sweet and sour Korean barbecue sauce, for two to share.
Their bottomless brunch (with beef skewers and flatbread) will be making an appearance too and they'll have a Sunday roast which will include the option of a Three Beast Feast - smoked and pulled lamb shoulder, roast aged beef and roast pork.
If you've been to the site in its previous guise, you'll know it's a two-level affair. As Temper, it'll have a cocktail bar on the ground floor with the main restaurant in the basement, centred around the main open-fire kitchen.
