Most of us probably sorted out flowers and maybe breakfast in bed for our mums this Mother's Day. Darjeeling Express restaurateur Asma Khan went one better - dedicating and naming her second cookbook for hers.
Ammu - Food to nourish your soul, from a life of cooking, was named for Asma's mother, and will come out next year. As she explains: "The five chapters of my second cookbook cover the five decades of my life. A lifetime of learning about spices, flavours and how to cook with love and patience.
"I dedicate my new book to Ammu, my mother- who taught me how to cook and how to use food to nourish the soul."
We're promised plenty of recipes from Asma's Bengali mother including those cooked for special occasions – births, deaths and marriages, along with recipes passed through generations of Asma’s Rajput and Bengali families as well as the quick recipes she cooks every day.
News of the new book topped off what's been a busy 12 months for Asma. She was the first chef to be featured on British Vogue's list of 25 most influential women of the year for 2020 and her Netflix Chef's Table episode was nominated for an Emmy.
