After a rather high profile departure from his Michelin-starred restaurant at The Westbury, after which he won an unfair dismissal case, Alyn Williams is back in action with his own meal kits as part of Alyn Williams at Home.
Each dinner will be a three-course set menu with some extras (including a vegetarian version) and it'll change every fortnight. Here's an example:
- Rye & treacle sourdough, whipped butter
- Kombu cured gilthead bream, cucumber, pickled coriander stems, ponzu dressing, apple, sesame, wasabi peas & seaweed crackers
- Slow-cooked short rib, smoked carrot, cima di rapa, dauphinoise potato,
- House salad - baby gem, crispy onion, ranch dressing
- Chocolate fudge cake, salt caramel chocolate frosting, Speculoos crème diplomat
Yes, that does sound very good. Vegetarian options include "Cauliflower velouté, curry roasted florets, seaweed crackers" and you can add on hand-crafted chocolates and truffle. We asked Alyn to tell us a little more about his new project:
Obviously, the last 18 months have been pretty challenging, but I'm a positive sort and have always been confident that things will get better. I'd been thinking about an 'at home' service for a couple of months, and while it might look like I'm turning up a bit late to the party, I think that this type of service will become another dining option that wasn't really available before the pandemic. It's great to know that you can have a choice of any number of quality meals prepared or you by known chefs in your home for a quiet dinner in or a party with friends. I see it as opening a new restaurant, just with a twist.
But that's not all that's coming from the chef - he is planning to open a new restaurant too: "I am however planning on opening a physical restaurant at some point this or next year. I had a couple of projects thwarted by the covid situation and am looking forward to getting back into the London restaurant scene." We'll definitely be keeping an eye out for news on that.
