New opening

As we wind up the year, there are still some very big new openings still to come this month, including the new opening from Core's Clare Smyth and the long-awaited Guinness brewery in Covent Garden.

Ever since we heard that Petersham Nurseries had shut both their restaurants in central London, we've been wondering what was going to take over those spaces in Floral Court. Well, now we have the answer to one half of that. Conor Gadd is the chef and co-owner of the perennially popular Trullo in Islington. And he's taken on the space that was The Petersham to open Burro, his first solo venture.

Once thought to have been dealt a killing blow by the lockdowns, the past couple of years have been a boom time for food halls. The latest to join the fray is the newest Market Place and it's easily their most central London location yet.

The space that was The Good Egg at Eat 17 in Walthamstow has just undergone a big transformation. They've teamed up with the people behind East London's Proud Mary olive oil to launch Proud Mary Pizzeria. It'll be taking over the space in the evening (The Good Egg will still be running during the day).

You've got to do a lot to stand out against the competition, particularly in London's dynamic food and wine scene. So we applaud the folk behind new E17 wine and listening bar Olfaclub for doing several things differently.

The pair behind it, Beth and Jeremy, are hoping to create a welcoming space to try out new wine. To that end, they'll be offering a wine list available exclusively by the glass. And nothing else.

Restaurateur Martin Kuczmarski is a busy man. Just days after opening Martino's, his follow-up restaurant to The Dover, in Chelsea he's at it again. Now he's gearing up to open another space on Dover Street, just a few doors down from his OG restaurant.

Dover Street Counter sounds like it'll be much more of a playful, casual spot. They're pitching it as "a place to drop in - and likely stay longer than planned."

We're always going to be interested in the arrival of a hot new noodle restaurant. But the one being unveiled in Chinatown next month sounds like it's really bringing something new to the table.

San Hao is the latest opening from the restaurant team behind YiQi, The Eight and Dozo. They're describing the place as a "refined noodle and fried dumpling restaurant". What's refined about it?

2026 will be Brother Marcus' tenth year, and this their eighth restaurant (don't be surprised if there's another before 2026 is done), taking over the space that was The Stoke House.

Pasta restaurant Bancone already has four restaurants across town (Soho, Covent Garden, Kensington and Borough), and now it looks like they're getting ready to open a fifth. They've just applied for licensing to open in a new development on Princes Street (down the road from Bank station and around the corner from The Ned).

Mediterranean restaurant Jul's started life in Ibiza in 2018 and the same team also opened Humain restaurant in Athens. Now the team are getting ready to bring Jul's restaurant to London, opening in St James. 

It's opening as part of one of the new developments in the area which, like other recent opening Aki, is inside an ex-bank. The restaurant comes from Chef Christos Fotos,

As proof that London's Mexican food scene is getting better by the day, comes a new opening in Peckham that genuinely sounds worth crossing town for. Maíz's USP is that it's the city's first Mexican restaurant to specialise in pozole. We're not going to pretend we're experts in this particular Mexican dish, but according to them, it's a "slow-cooked hominy corn broth infused with over five spices and simmered for many hours".

Ready for even more burgers? The latest addition is a burger restaurant from Dubai that's found a home in Knightsbridge. 

GOAT's London outpost is its first outside the UAE, and it's taking over the space that used to be Feya. It's a burger brand that appears to be big in its original location, although the release that we've been given talks about launching the "UAE’s first emoji-based
