New opening

  • The Tallyman will be Canary Wharf's new East End pub with pies, pints and fish and chips

They run Faber seafood restaurant in Hammersmith and The Somers Town Coffee House in King's Cross and now the same team are celebrating their 20th anniversary with a new opening. This time, it's a new pub in Canary Wharf.

It's early days on what to expect from the opening, but it will be much more like a proper pub than their seafood offering. The menu here promises to feature classic pub dishes as well as "celebrating British ingredients with a wholesome, sustainable focus." That should translate into traditional dishes like pies, shellfish and fish and chips. They're also

  • Bloomsbury gets a shiny new rooftop bar as Arcus takes over the top of The Imperial hotel on Russell Square

The Imperial Hotel in Bloomsbury is getting a (much-needed) overhaul at the moment, and a great part of that is focused on the roof. Up there, they're opening a brand new rooftop bar called Arcus.

It's going to be pretty huge, as they'll be able to fit over 300 people and, given that Bloomsbury isn't quite as high-rise as other parts of town, you should be able to get some fantastic views. They're promising views of St Paul's, the London Eye and, much closer to them, a bird's eye view of the British Museum. There are a lot of tables open  to the elements, but if the

  • Lockdown Bakehouse's pastries and Australian brunches are coming to Putney

Lockdown Bakehouse only started in 2020, but they're already getting ready to open their sixth bakery, this time in Putney.

As the name suggests, they originally started life during the lockdown, coming from the same team behind MyPie, who pivoted and started using their kitchen for different baked goods. Since then, they've opened cafes in Wandsworth, Barnes, Clapham, Earlsfield and Raynes Park, with this latest continuing their march across South-West London.

At the latest cafe, you can expect the same range of breads and pastries that they serve in the others. So that

  • Scottish toasties on the menu at Deeney’s new cafe at the Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration in Clerkenwell

They're best known for their Macbeth grilled cheese sandwich with haggis, and Scottish-inspired street food folk Deeney's are hoping to introduce those toasties and more to art fans this summer. They've taken on the cafe space at the soon-to-open gallery dedicated to illustrative art in Clerkenwell.

Their cafe at The Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration will serve up those toasties plus salads and soups to gallery visitors and locals. It sounds like a lovely space, set inside the old Boiler House, with space for 40 inside plus a large south-facing terrace, perfect for the

  • Flat Iron's next affordable steakhouse is on Clapham Common

Flat Iron are on the expansion trail again, this time getting ready to open in Clapham, taking on a newly redeveloped site just beside the common.

If you've been to a Flat Iron before, you should know what to expect from the new opening. It'll stick to the usual format of a menu that's centred around their main flat iron cut of steak, which is currently £15 on the menu (still a great deal as far as steakhousess go), That's backed up by a few other cuts, some blackboard specials and their green chilli cheeseburger.

This particular location will have a terrace too, but

  • Bar Blondie wine bar is taking over from Milk Beach in Queen's Park, taking Southern Europe as its new inspiration

Milk Beach has a big restaurant in Soho, but they originally began life in Queen's Park. However, that first Milk Beach is about to be reborn in a new guise, Bar Blondie.

The new Bar Blondie will be a wine bar that's run by Elliot Milne (who's behind Milk Beach) with award-winning sommelier Alexandra Price (previously Bar Crispin and Plates). Leaving behind the Australian influence of Milk Beach, this time the bar is looking to Southern Europe for inspiration.

That means the menu here will now take its cues from French and Italian cuisine, with dishes including small

  • Gordon Ramsay is taking over the restaurant at Sea Containers

While the bar at Sea Containers, Lyaness by Ryan Chetiyawardana, is one of the very best in London, the restaurant at the hotel has never managed to have the same cut through. But now they're trying something new as they've brought in none other than Gordon Ramsay to launch Gordon Ramsay at Sea Containers.

Gordon's new space will be an all-day restaurant that will also have one of the best riverside terraces in town. However, just what's being planned for the restaurant, from the menu through to the look, is still being kept under wraps.

So this is just an announcement at

  • Canopy is taking over Olympia's rooftop, fitting in Mexican, Japanese and British restaurants and a food hall too

We've already had the launch of Pillar Hall at the revamped Olympia, but that was only the start of all that's happening there. With two hotels and a big entertainment venue to come, there will also be a new destination rooftop that has four distinct parts to it.

This is the latest opening from the Incipio Group, the people behind Pergola (in Canary Wharf and Brixton) and another west London hit, The Prince, and this time it looks like

  • Cornbread madeleines and poussin with grits; Appalachia will serve up Southern food with a London polish

It's all change over at the restaurant formerly known as Counter 71 in Shoreditch. The chef's table restaurant previously focused on an all-British menu. Now it's being turned into Appalachia, a restaurant inspired by the mountainous region of the US.

For the new restaurant, a new chef has been brought in - Alistair Borer (ex-Smoking Goat and Nutbourne). He's taking the American co-owners Camilla Meshiea and Ryan Sheenan's vision to the table. And really, the idea to turn the restaurant over to American influences does marry the whole space here together as the bar downstairs,

  • Dante Mayfair takes over as the new permanent Claridge's restaurant

Since the closure of Davies & Brook back in 2021 after Daniel Humm decided to go vegan, the restaurant at Claridge's has somewhat struggled to find an identity. However, last summer saw the launch of New York's Dante as a pop-up there which really started to get some of the space's mojo back. They must be very pleased with the collab as they've just announced that Dante will now be the permanent restaurant at Claridge's.

What this means is that the space that was Claridge's Restaurant has now closed. It will reopen in mid-June as Dante Mayfair with New York restaurateurs

  • Stokey is getting a brand new pub, The Mary Wollstonecraft

Last December, after over 30 years, Ryan's Bar closed its doors for good in Stoke Newington. But very soon the space is going to be relaunched as a brand new pub, The Mary Wollstonecraft (who, of course, has a fairly memorable sculpture in nearby Newington Green).

The pub is coming from Nick Bailey, who opened The Robin Ale & Cider House in Stroud Green back in 2023. An independent pub with a big focus on real ale, one of the main aims of the pub was to be a proper neighbourhood pub, and we're assuming that's just what's being planned with his latest opening.

  • New Brockley restaurant Cantinera is inspired by Mexican cantinas and Spanish tapas bars

You may have encountered them in their previous guise, Codillos, popping up at Patio in Brighton and Joyce in Brockley. Now chefs Jake Barwood and Celia D’Ortiz have gone one better, opening their first restaurant together, Cantinera. This Brockley neighbourhood cantina is going to combine ultra seasonal ingredients with dishes inspired by Celia's Spanish and Mexican heritage.

Now they have their own space, having taken over the old Mother Flipper site on Coulgate Street. Based on Mexican cantinas and Spanish tapas bars, the menu will change weekly, with dishes on the launch one
