Modern Pantry's Anna Hansen an MBE in New Year Honours

annahansenThe Modern Pantry's Anna Hansen heads up the handful of food-related people recognised in this year's New Year Honours list. Hansen, who was born in Canada and brought up in New Zealand and now runs the Modern Pantry in Clerkenwell was given an MBE for services to the restaurant industry. Hansen, currently in New Zealand, said "I am completely bowled over. It is an incredible honour and I am truly delighted".

Another key recipient today was Jeanette Orrey, the original dinner lady who inspired Jamie Oliver's school meals campaign. She was given an MBE for services to food in schools and said she was 'humbled and shocked' at the award.

And finally, an MBE was given to Bajloor Rashid, restaurateur and president of the Bangladesh Caterers Association which represents over 12,000 British-Bangladeshi restaurants in the UK, including most of those on Brick Lane.
