Exclusive - Polpetto to be re-launched as Florence Knight leaves

Since it opened, the new Polpetto was garnered with many glowing reviews (not least a five star review from the Evening Standard) with much praise aimed at head chef Florence Knight.

But from today, Polpetto will be closed for a week as Florence Knight leaves for pastures new. She's been a key part of Polpetto from the very first days upstairs at Dean Street and even more so with its re-launch e…

OXBO Bankside and The Distillery are coming to the new Hilton

London's Bankside is getting a new Hilton hotel and, as you might expect, they've got a big restaurant and bar that they're hoping will be a bit of a gamechanger for the chain.

OXBO Bankside is on the ground floor of the hotel. It's going to be big - room for 168 diners - and they've got a suitably hotel-trained up chef to run it. Paul Bates will be the executive chef and he comes here via Corbin…

Selfridges' Meet the Makers is back with foraged food dinners and more

For a second year, Selfridges Food Hall (something we're quite addicted to here at Hot Dinners) has launched Meet the Makers, where they showcase 12 artisan producers and it's all backed by some very interesting dinners too.

Those included are:

  • Wild Food by MASH: This sounds very interesting, MASH provide foraged food for restaurants worldwide and this is the first time they'll be packaging it u…

Lee Tiernan brings Black Axe Mangal to Islington

Chef Lee Tiernan is bringing a ‘Metal and Mangal’ restaurant to Islington. Lee's Black Axe Mangal project first started in Copenhagen as a series of popups where it quickly reached cult status amongst both locals and travelling chefs. Prior to his move Lee spent over 10 years working at St John, finishing up as head chef at Bread & Wine in Spitalfields working alongside James Lowe and John Og…

Delta and Virgin launch a first class lounge for everyone at the O2

It's all happening in North Greenwich at the moment. There's the wonderful Craft London and we're already fans of the big driving range and Vinothec Compass. And now Virgin Atlantic have landed in the O2 with a version of their first class lounge that you don't have to book a transatlantic flight to experience (although all this talk of New York is reminding us it's high time to arrange another v…

It quietly opened last week but now there's a Korean takeaway option that Marylebone locals may want to be aware of. On the Bab (also at Covent Garden and Shoreditch) have just launched On the Bab Express. It has a smaller menu than the main restaurants, including:

New noodle bar Bosslady gets preview pop-ups at Forzawin

The people behind Forzawin, Arch McLeish and Bash Redford, have a new restaurant on the way - a noodle bar called Bosslady. They've joined up with Henry Chung - who has spent the last six months in Taipo in preparation for their speciality - beef brisket noodles.

It's all inspired by a Taipo restaurant. It's been there for 30 years and apparently "embodies a humble yet unscrupulous approach to pe…

Showdown cocktail bar to open underneath The Lockhart

While it's fair to say that we're pretty pumped up about the upcoming new opening by Lockhart's Brad McDonald, Shotgun, the downstairs bar at the original restaurant in Marylebone being created by Matt Whiley (Peg + Patriot) also sounds the business.

Showdown takes Brad's approach to the food at The Lockhart, giving American classics a similar modernist twist. There'll be an iced tea cocktail on…

Yeah Burger launches Scotch egg burgers

After donut burgers it was, we suspect, the next logical step. This is the scotch egg burger - being launched by Yeah Burger, who have a couple of residencies set up across town. It is, yes, a burger surrounded by a scotch egg. It's apparently being launched to celebrate the start of the Edinburgh Fringe (although, it must be said at this point, scotch eggs aren't actually Scottish...).

Those bur…
