Chef David Thompson to bring Long Chim pop-up to Hovarda in Soho

In news that should get your Thai-food taste-buds tingling, acclaimed Australian chef David Thompson is bringing a modern Bangkok-inspired menu to London, with the launch of Long Chim. Meaning ‘come and try’, Long Chim currently has outlets in Sydney, Perth and Dubai (and previously in Melbourne and Singapore).

If this is all ringing vague bells for you, we reported a couple of years back that the London Long Chim was going to be a standalone restaurant rather than a pop-up . As is usually the way in the restaurant industry, things change. That opening fell through, and it's become a residency which is taking over the ground floor of Hovarda in Soho.

What hasn’t changed is the decade-plus anticipation around this opening, since David closed the renowned Nahm in Belgravia in 2012. The Long Chim menu will call on his interpretation of Bangkok’s food scene, with a nod to including dishes he feels that Thai people miss the most when they’re away from home. Underpinning the concept will be the head chef from David’s Michelin-starred Aksorn in Bangkok – Patipan ‘Pae’ Jipromma – the two having worked alongside each other for over five years.

All we’ve heard about the menu at this stage is it’s inspired by the food stalls and markets of modern Bangkok. The residency is intended to run into early 2025.
