We’re not sure what snared our attention first: the mesmerising tango takeover videos on The Emory Hotel’s Instagram or the lure of access to a London rooftop that was previously only open for guests. Either way, you need to know that Argentinian bartender ‘Tato’ is bringing his cocktails to London’s Emory Hotel rooftop for a limited time.
Tato, aka Renato Giovannoni, won the World’s 50 Best Bars Industry Icon Award in 2023 and founded Buenos Aires’ World’s 50 Best Bar’s Florería Atlántico. The opportunity to try his cocktails while taking in the never-seen-before 360-degree views of London’s skyline from the 10th floor of the Knightsbridge hotel makes us a little giddy.
The Emory pop-up will feature Tato’s signature cocktails, an Argentinian music playlist (hello, dramatic tangoes), and even tattoos of sea creatures hand-drawn by Tato. The sea theme will be strong (El Mar de Tato is the name of the menu), influenced as it is by Tato’s Pinamar childhood by the Atlantic Ocean.
What about Argentinian snacks, you say? Sí. During Tato’s rooftop residency, there’ll be three creations circulated to guests; we’ve only been told about one, which is Tato’s favourite: King crab and prawn empanadas with a squeeze of lime.
The exclusive cocktails will include:
- Negroni Balestrini: made with Principe de los Apostoles (Tato’s own gin brand, and the first high-end gin distilled in Argentina)
- Garua Martini
- Bloody Mary of the Week: an ever-changing creation but not as you know it –think mango, cacao and red wine as an example of unusual ingredients
Maybe if you ask Tato nicely, he might include Mary Poppins Barley Water on the list: one of his favourite cocktails and inspired by his time studying in London over 30 years ago.
