The year of high-profile closures continues. The latest restaurant to reveal that it's shutting the doors, after nine years, is Pidgin, James Ramsden and Sam Herlihy's Hackney restaurant. But just because they're leaving, it doesn't mean it's quite the end for this tiny Hackney restaurant.
Announcing the closure on Instagram, they said, "Many people dream of opening a restaurant. Not many dream of closing one. So while we’re sad to put a full-stop on this chapter, we are excited and reassured that two brilliant people will be realising their own dream." They reveal that current head chef Drew Snaith, and ex-Pidgin manager Hannah Kowalski will be taking over the restaurant and launching their own place, Sesta.
Pidgin was known for having a single tasting menu that changed completely every single week, at the time of writing meaning that there have been 1638 different dishes on 409 different menus, with two final menus still to come. If you want to get a chance to try one of those final menus, get in quick.
As for Sesta, we'll bring you news of their opening soon.
