27/8/24 - updated with the opening date
It quickly became a local hit when opening in Islington in 2021 and now a new Tofu Vegan is opening, this time in Fitzrovia.
Since the Islington launch, the group - which is backed by Zhang Chao of Xi’an Impression - has opened in Golders Green and Spitalfields but this is their most central location yet, taking over from what was Dim T restaurant (right next to Lisboeta).
As the name suggests, it is an entirely plant-based restaurant, with a menu that takes its influences from all over China, thanks to chefs from Sichuan in the south west of China and the northeastern Dongbei region. Not surprisingly, tofu makes a big showing on the menu, as well as plenty of vegetables and various "imitation meats". Dishes include:
- Sizzling fried tofu in black bean sauce
- Cantonese sweet and sour chik'n
- Deep-fried tofu and mushroom balls
- House made silken tofu in spicy/savoury sauces
And there's even a Peking "d'ck" (although we're not sure that's the best place to put that apostrophe). That's all barely scratching the surface of a menu that also features plant-based dim sum, rice and noodle dishes and more.
