Guirong Wei, the chef behind Master Wei, does like to do things quietly. Very much under the radar, she's just opened her latest restaurant Dream Xi’an in Tower Hill.
This latest opening, like Master Wei (in Bloomsbury) and Xi’an Impression (in Highbury) before it, is focused on Shaanxi cooking, with hand-pulled noodles making up many of the signature dishes. This restaurant is larger than the others she's opened (seating about 70 inside, it used to be a Goumet Burger Kitchen, so this is a major upgrade). That also means there's an expanded menu here too.
New to the menu at Dream Xi’an are their hand-made steamed dim sum, including the Xi’an Empress Dumplings (chicken, prawn, and carrots) and the Xi’an special steamed dumpling (pork, cabbage, and spring onion). Other new dishes include a special fried bao which sounds very interesting as well as paomo soup, a stew of chopped-up bread, cooked with sliced beef and served in beef broth. You'll also find many of the signatures from Master Wei on the menu.
Guirong herself says: “My previous restaurants gave me the chance to bring my hometown food to London, and with Dream Xi’an I’m so lucky to be able to offer many more special dishes – I hope people will love it as much as I do, it means a lot to me!”
