Another day, another news story about Notting Hill. That part of London is on fire at the moment when it comes to interesting food and drink openings. Today we bring you news not of a new opening but a reopening. Two prominent teams have so far failed to turn The Walmer Castle into a thriving business. First up we had David Beckham and Guy Ritchie, followed by Piers Adam (Mahiki) who gave it a Scottish spin. Now husband and wife team Jack and Poppy Greenall, who also run Chelsea's The Surprise Pub, are having a go.
They're giving the pub a full head-to-toe makeover by Isabella Worsley, who made her name working as an in-house designer at Firmdale Hotels before branching out on her own. She's worked with the Greenalls before on The Surprise Pub. Working alongside her is art advisor Olivia Paterson who's ensuring that this pub has a very decent art collection with works by artists including Tracey Emin and Cornelia Parker.
What we don't know much about is the food and drink side of things. Think pub grub made with produce sourced from top-tier folk like The Ginger Pig and Flying Fish. There'll be plenty of draft beers and ciders and Jeroboams and Wanderlust wine are behind the wine list.
Will this latest team effort manage to bring The Walmer Castle back to life? Let's hope so. No-one likes seeing a closed pub.
