Updated 25/10/24 with opening date
Interesting news reaches us of a plan by Jason Atherton to open what's being described as a 'flagship restaurant' in Mayfair. The restaurateur, is very busy indeed this Autumn, but this is planned as his flagship.
Row on 5 will take over two floors of a new building on Savile Row. The concept is "a culinary voyage" involving a multi-course dining experience. On the ground floor, there's a mix of counter dining and tables for 36 diners. Downstairs there's an open kitchen and bar and room for 22 more diners, along with a private dining room - or cellar - with eight seats.
It sounds like a similar concept to Row on 45 in Dubai, which quickly won the chef two Michelin stars. Here in the UK, he's teamed up with chef Spencer Metzger, best known for being head chef at The Ritz.
Savile Row sounds like a dream location for restaurateur Atherton whose love of bespoke tailoring is well-documented. He once told the South China Morning Post "I like to go to Savile Row and sit for four hours talking about fabric, stitching and lining".
We're intrigued that this is being described as 'flagship' when previously that's been the description for Atherton's (now closed) Pollen Street Social. We'll bring you more news as we get it.
