Empire Empire brings Indian food and disco to Notting Hill

empireempirenew

17/5/23 - updated with more details about the menu

Notting Hill continues to go from strength to strength and the latest to enter the fray there is the man behind popular Indian restaurant Gunpowder. Empire Empire is on the way.

Led by Gunpowder's Harneet Baweja, it's actually planned to be a mix of Indian food and disco music, with a focus on the seventies music scene in India. And yes, dancing will be strongly encouraged in a space that's said to be inspired by old-school curry houses.

As for the food, the menu will look to the northwestern cuisines of the old Punjab Empire. So in practice, that means:

  • Snacks like kid goat samosas or Amritsari fried chicken
  • Curries that include beetroot and paneer kofte or Old Delhi butter chicken
  • Biryanis will include lobster biryani or dum lamb shank and bone marrow biryani
  • Kebabs like the goat jheela kebab or duck and guineafowl chutney kebab
  • And desserts like the saffron milk cake

We'll have more about the restaurant closer to the opening date.
