With a reputation that precedes him, world-renowned pastry chef Cedric Grolet is heading to London, opening his first UK patisserie (and the first outside France) at The Berkeley in Knightsbridge. Rumours had been building of a UK base for the chef with all the pastry skills, when he posted a photo from Hyde Park Corner tube station in October saying "London, I'm coming!" Now we know both where and when.

Cedric Grolet at The Berkeley will be on the Knightsbridge side of the hotel - where the entrance to Koffmann's used to be. The hotel are describing the patisserie as a kind of "pastry theatre where Grolet’s team will create his masterpieces for all to see". To that end there'll be eight seats at the heart of the action, overlooking the kitchen.

If you don't manage to get a seat there, the hotel is also opening a 60 seater The Berkeley Café which will serve Grolet's breakfast, pastries and an entirely new afternoon tea concept - Goûter Cedric Grolet.

As for the sweet treats themselves, Grolet's patisserie will serve up both the pastry chef's famous fruit creations and his Flowers collection. The fruits go down a storm on Grolet's Instagram page and they do look impressive - think the patisserie equivalent of Heston's Meat Fruit.

"[London] is such a special city and its energy completely inspires me," said Cedric. "I can’t wait to open early next year."
