What: SpiceBox
In a nutshell: An all-vegan curry house in Walthamstow.
Summing it all up: British curry house favourites are re-imagined in plant-based form by street food favourite SpiceBox.
The low-down
After a successful run on the street food circuit with KERB, Grace Regan’s SpiceBox is gearing up to open its first permanent location, in Walthamstow on 29th January. Located on Hoe Street, right opposite Yard Sale Pizza, SpiceBox will be offering an entirely vegan menu of curry house classics.
So the SpiceBox version of the much-loved Tikka Masala will be made with tandoori “chickn" pieces and crunchy green peppers; the Jackfruit Jalfrezi will be a spicy curry cooked with peppers, onions and jackfruit; and the Brinjal Bhaji, will feature charred smoky aubergine and peas in a rich tomato gravy.
There are also a whole load of sides and breads including Bombay Potatoes, naan, roti, and the Tarka Dhal which was voted ‘Best Dahl in Britain’ at The British Dahl Festival 2018. A selection of desserts round it all off, including the Biscoff and Cardamom Paratha, a warm paratha topped with coconut ice cream, Biscoff cardamom drizzle and a Biscoff crumb; and a Banana Chai Doffle, a full dosa waffle topped with chai-spiced grilled banana, chocolate sauce, and toasted coconut flakes.
No curry house would be complete without big bottles of Cobra beer of course and SpiceBox will be no different, offering the classic Cobra Lager as well as the 0% non-alcoholic version and an IPA from Walthamstow’s own Wild Card Brewery. There are also cocktails, soft drinks and mango lassis completing the drinks line-up.
