Artisan Greek food and wine is at the heart of Taverna Ermou, opening in Marylebone

When you already run two Greek delis in London and represent a host of artisanal Greek food producers, then opening a full-blown restaurant is really the next logical step. So that's why ERGON, the group behind the ERGON delis off Regent Street and Westfield London, is about to open Taverna Ermou.

It'll be the first London outpost of a restaurant that they opened in Athens last year. Open all day, the breakfast menu will include koulouri bagels served with eggs, smoked salmon and Greek yoghurt, along with pancakes, cold-pressed smoothies and bougatsa with sweet or savoury fillings.

Later in the day, the menu expands to take in a range of mezze - the spanakopita dip is a particular favourite in Athens. Signature dishes include prawn saganaki, chicken souvlaki and a crab giouvetsi served with orzo pasta.

The wine list is all about championing Greek wines, whether that's their own-label Assyrtiko or a magnum of Agiorgitiko from the much-vaunted Aivalis Winery. As you might expect, there'll be ouzo too and a range of signature cocktails, including a special take on the Negroni and a Midnight in Athens cocktail made with mastiha.

The space itself, on James Street, just off Oxford Street, will feature a decent-sized terrace, so whether you're a homesick expat or just want to relive your favourite Greek holiday memories, it sounds like a visit here will do the trick.
