  • Hidden behind a London Fields wonton bar, Cafe Kowloon marries Hong Kong inspo with London vibes

Back in October, we brought you the news that the team behind Mr Bao and Daddy Bao were opening Wonton Charlie's in London Fields. But what we didn't know at the time was that there was going to be a secret Cantonese restaurant hidden at the back of it. Cafe Kowloon is just gearing up to open and it's going to serve up a contemporary London spin on Hong Kong dishes. Owners Frank Yeung (whose dad is from Hong Kong) and Abhinav Malde sound like they've got an amazing menu

  • Buvette is coming back to London, this time opening in Covent Garden

Chef Jody Williams is taking another crack at London with New York-originated restaurant Buvette (which also has opened in Paris, Tokyo and Seoul).

The self-style "gastrotheque" will be opening an 80-seater site, taking over what was the old St John Bakery in Neal's Yard (that recently moved across the way). If you've ever visited that space and are wondering just how they're going to fit 80 seats in there, a recent trip to Neal's Yard showed us that they'll also be taking over the

  • Tommy's Sandwiches in King's Cross is inspired by a passion for American subs

We can't be the only ones hearing American voices literally wherever we are in London. So it's clear there's already going to be a large expat audience for the new American deli opening up at King's Cross. But Tommy's Sandwiches are hoping that their loaded subs are also going to be the kind of sandwich that gets Londoners excited too.

According to owner, Washington native Tommy, he was inspired to open his sandwich shop after missing the big subs back home. "The UK has a sandwich problem," he says. "Sandwiches were invented there, but frankly, the sandwiches there are pretty

  • Iraqi-Iranian Logma graduates from supperclub to permanent cafe and bistro in Hackney

Set up just over a year ago, Logma became a big hit, originally running occasional Iranian supperclubs at E5 Bakehouse. It comes from Ziad Halub and his partner Farsin Rabiee, who are bringing their respective cuisines to the table for a unique Iraqi/Iranian mix of dishes.

Now they've taken the next step and have opened a permanent space in Hackney. It's starting up as a cafe with an aim to open a dining room for their bistro later in the month. They say the plan is to serve up "Iranian + Iraqi homemade comfort food we grew up with, made with organic seasonal

  • Belgravia gets in on the thin crust pizza game with Weezie's

We're only on day two of 2026 and we're already bringing you news of another new pizzeria gearing up to open in London. Weezie's has taken over the old Biscuiteers site in Eccleston Yards, just around the corner from Victoria Station. The people behind it, Will and Abbie Sandbach, run the Amie Wine Studio, which is right next door in the Belgravia development. They're describing Weezie's, which is named after Abbie's grandmother, as a pizza-focused restaurant and wine bar.

On the menu will be a range of thin-crust pizzas in the London/New Haven-style, along with various small

  • Fred Bakery is a handy new bakery for Oxford Street shoppers

Here's one that opened during the pre-Christmas rush, which we're just catching up on now. The original Fred Bakery has been a hit in Holborn ever since opening back in 2021, but now they have a much more central second bakery, just around the corner from Oxford Circus.

The second Fred has launched on Margaret Street, taking over what used to be a Coco di Mama site. It comes from restaurateur Burak Demirelli, the man behind Italian restaurant Faros (which happens to have its two locations steps from both Fred bakeries).

As for what you can find here,

  • Karam's sees Jikoni's Ravinder Bhogal opening a South Asian vegetarian restaurant in The Brunswick Centre

They already have a restaurant planned for V&A East to open this year, but Jikoni's Ravinder Bhogal and Nadeem Lalani Nanjuwany now have another opening lined up for 2026.

Called Karam's, it will be opening in Bloomsbury's Brunswick Centre (in the space where MEATliquor used to be). It's being billed as a new South Asian vegetarian restaurant, which they say "will go back to the food of Ravinder and Nadeem's Indian ancestors" (the restaurant itself is named after Ravinder's grandfather).

The full menu is yet to be revealed, but we do know

  • After two decades, Song Que Cafe is expanding with a new pho bar in Spitalfields

    Updated 29/12/25 with opening date

Song Que Cafe in Hoxton has long been both one of the area's best Vietnamese restaurants and also one of the best in London. It's been doing great business since opening all the way back in 2002, and now they've decided it's time to launch something new.

To that end, they've taken over what was once Pearly Queen in Spitalfields (Tom Brown's former seafood restaurant) to open Song Que Pho Bar. As the name suggests, here they'll be focusing on their pho noodle soup, and they tell us that they'll be serving up "all our

  • Doctor's Orders is Dr. Martens' new in-store cafe in Soho, serving Dusty Knuckle toasties and Luminary Bakery cakes

London's in-store dining has had quite a boost over the past few weeks. First, we had the all-star opening of the new Kith store on Regent Street with its restaurant and soft serve bar. Now we have the new Dr. Martens flagship store in Soho which, for the first time, boasts a brand new offering, the Doctor's Orders cafe.

The cafe, which you'll find inside the massive two-storey building in the heart of Soho, was a brand new concept devised for what they're calling a

  • Covent Garden is getting a New York-inspired cocktail bar called Cato

Covent Garden is getting a New York-inspired cocktail bar that sounds like it could be very useful for brightening up January.

Called Cato, the bar is inspired by Cato Alexander, a New York bartender from the 18th Century, about whom Wikipedia says: "cocktail historians consider him to be 'America's first celebrity bartender.'" We didn't know there was such a thing as cocktail historians, but there you go. It comes from hospitality group Bart & Taylor, along with bartender Angelos Bafas (aka

  • Frites Atelier have brought their cult loaded fries to Soho

They're big in the Netherlands and Belgium, where they hoover up the tourist crowds looking for particularly extra punnets of chips, and now Frites Atelier have come to London, landing in Soho (taking over from Balans no. 34). People do seem to enjoy queuing for food in Soho, so expect this to be the big new viral hit in the run-up to Christmas. They have had Eating With Tod in already, after all...

It was originally started by Michelin-starred chef Sergio Herman almost 10 years ago, but (so far) they've expanded only slowly and this is their fourth main opening, following

  • Waterloo commuters now have a proper Grind coffee shop at the station

Spare a thought for London's commuters, wearily trekking into and out of London every day. Now, at least the ones coming via Waterloo will have some decent coffee waiting for them when they get here.

Grind are officially opening their newest coffee shop at Waterloo today. And while they've got shops close to London Bridge and Liverpool Street, this is their first to open actually inside a station. This one's a decent size too, with room for 35 folk to sit inside.

If you're looking for it, it's on the mezzanine level, opposite Platform 5. Better still, as an opening offer,

For a while now clothing brand Kith and its treat store have been one of the best places to get soft serve in London. But the imminent opening of their flagship store on Regent Street is going to bring both a Treats bar and a standalone restaurant.

Ronnie's New York, named after Kith founder Ronnie Fieg, will have its own entrance. It looks like a gorgeously designed space - with a mix of booth and counter seating. The space has its own cocktail lounge where they'll be serving up drinks like a Rose Espresso Martini

  • Cheese toasties on the menu for City workers with the arrival of Melt at Boxhall City

Lunch options for folks in the City just got a boost in the run up to Christmas with the arrival of cheese toastie folk MELT at the Boxhall City food hall. Melt have been trading at Old Spitalfields for the past couple of years; you'll probably have seen their signature oozy cheese toasties on your FYP at some point.
