On Friday night, having barely recovered from Taste Of London, the Hot Dinners team headed back out to Soho to see one of New York's most famous chefs in action.
David Chang, of momofuku fame, was over for a two-night-only stint at Fergus Henderson and Trevor Gulliver's St John Hotel just off Leicester Square. At £100 for food only it was certainly on the expensive side, but as we waddled out after a full-on two hours of frankly excellent food, we would have to say that it was worth stumping up the cash for this special occasion.
While everyone's momofuku favourite, the Pork Bun, made an appearance, the highlight of the meal for us was the Eel Dashi with peas & samphire - a stunning dish that we simply didn't want to finish. We also loved the crispy sweetness of the pulled pork, part of a course that took over the entire table with oysters, strips of rib-eye steak and macerated kimchi and hot sauce. The whole meal made us want to head straight over to New York for more - but then we're also hoping that someone offers Chang a place in London as soon as possible.
