Michael Nadra opening second restaurant in Primrose Hill

Michael NAdra opening second restaurant in Primrose Hill[Updated with menu details and opening date 7/9/12]

His original restaurant in Chiswick has been a big success and now Michael Nadra is moving across town to Primrose Hill. The chef, who's previously worked at Petrus, Chez Bruce and La Trompette will be opening a restaurant and martini bar there this September.

The new restaurant will have Nadra in the kitchen (his current Sous Chef, Peter Harbrecht-Parker, will manage the Chiswick kitchen during the opening period of Primrose Hill). It'll feature a signature á la carte menu and six course tasting menu taken from the original restaurant while there will also be several prix fixe options at £10, £14 and £18 for one, two and three courses respectively.

There will also be some exclusive offerings at the Primrose Hill restaurant - a tempura and ceviche bar menu as well as a weekend brunch.

We caught up with Michael Nadra to find out more.

How will the menu and setting be different from the original Restaurant Michael Nadra?

The food philosophy will be the same in the Chiswick restaurant – meticulously crafted and beautifully presented dishes using only the finest British and Asian ingredients.

The new restaurant is much larger than Chiswick with quirky dining spaces, each with a different ambiance. There is also a vaulted events space housed in the building's original horse tunnel, a bar and an elegant al fresco dining terrace.

What made you decide to open a restaurant in Primrose hill?

I love the area and have long wanted to open a larger restaurant. So, when the opportunity to purchase a bigger restaurant there, I grabbed it. Plus, the site ticked all the boxes – unique canal-side location, much bigger kitchen, outside seating and an events space.

And can you tell us anything more about the Martini bar?

In an area dominated by gastropubs and restaurants, the martini bar promises to be a welcome addition. It will offer over 20 classic & modern martinis, approximately 20 wines by the glass and over 200 bins alongside tempura and ceviche.

Michael Nadra Primrose Hill is now open at 42 Gloucester Avenue, Primrose Hill, London NW1 8JD

We've since had more details about the menu and pricing. The six course tasting menu will be £49 per person, with an extra £32 for wine matching. It includes such dishes as seared tuna with saffron crab tortellini, sautéed Asian vegetables, carrot and ginger puree, lemongrass veloute’ and ‘aged scotch fillet steak with braised cheeks, garlic girolles, baby spinach, truffle mashed potatoes and madeira jus.

Weekend brunch served between 11am and 2pm includes (as well as the usual breakfast staples) sautéed foie gras with pink grapefruit, fried duck egg and HP jus’, Manx kippers and a variety of eggs benedict.

And finally special dishes on the Martini bar menu range from soft shell Crab with daikon, black sesame, ginger and sweet chilli dressing to lamb sweetbreads with pea puree, pea shoots and rosemary ju and Scotch beef fillet with ginger, lemongrass and crisp shallots.
