Islington favourite Busan reopens on Holloway Road

Islington favourite Busan reopens on Holloway RoadIt's been closed for five years, but one of Islington's best-loved restaurants has returned to its original stomping ground on the Holloway Road.

Korean restaurant Busan was quietly reopened just off Highbury corner two weeks ago by the original owners Mr and Mrs Lee. The new location (next to Tesco) is a stone's throw away from its previous spot at the Islington end of Holloway Road. You can choose to eat-in or take out Korean dishes - and there's a new sushi menu.

The original Busan was one of Hot Dinners' local favourites so we popped in to see how things were going. Mrs Lee told us that the reception from locals so far had been fantastic and the bright and modern restaurant was clearly decked out with flowers from local well wishers.

So why are they back? The Lees had seen an empty shop space "just sitting there - so I thought we should come back. I didn't realise that the customers would keep checking on me to see when I'd be open. One customer was driving past and saw the open restaurant and stopped the car in the middle of the road to check it out! I was surprised at how many people were waiting for me."

The final menu is still being developed, but as well as the aforementioned sushi "we're also going to have more specials on the menu - like toniht we're having pumpkin stew, and anything that we have in fresh I'll be creating a special with it on the day." In the meantime you can expect a larger and more varied menu than before including Pajeon (traditional Korean pancakes), Japchae (sweet potato noodles), Samgyopsal (char-grilled pork belly) and more.

Busan is now open at 39 Holloway Road, N7
