Bincho Yakitori, which already has one site in Soho, is looking to expand its empire by opening a new flagship restaurant on Exmouth Market in a few weeks time.
Bincho EC1 will be at 55 Exmouth Market (where The Ambassador used to be). It'll have 70 covers and tables outside. As with Bincho Soho, there'll be seats up at the counter to watch the chefs at work, and also a bar area.
Bincho's Alex Cheung told Hot Dinners that in addition to old favourites like the chicken skin skewers, there'll be a range of new dishes on offer at the Clerkenwell outpost, but he couldn't tell us what chef David Miney was planning: "Chef's keeping it very under wraps - I don't even know what's on the menu yet."
So what can we expect from the new Bincho? "We're hoping that this one will be the one that takes us to the next level so we can open more and more branches," said Alex. "The Soho one's a bit more grubby Japanese Isakaya pub style and the one in Exmouth Market's going to be sleek, more contemporary but still hopefully have the same atmosphere, where you can have fun. We're not an upmarket Japanese restaurant. The last thing we want is to be compared to Roka or Zuma or anything like that."
Bincho EC1 should open on 15 November 2011. Hours are 12 until 10.30 in the evening, Sunday from 12-3.30pm. No reservations.
