Gordon Ramsay offers Masterchef's Dhruv a job

A round-up of the week's restaurant news in London

Following the men-only Masterchef final, The Telegraph kickstarted a debate into whether men should be in charge of the  kitchen, with Christopher Hirst taking the men's side and Rose Prince voting against. Even the Independent got in on the act.

As the dust settled on this season’s finale, the news broke this weekend that winner Dhruv Baker, who last week talked to all and sundry about what a huge inspiration Gordon Ramsay was for him, had been offered a job by...Ramsay. It’s not clear yet either whether Dhruv will accept, or where exactly he’ll work, but it certainly makes for a good story for both of them. ‘We will have a discussion with him to see which restaurant will best suit him and then offer him a stage,’ El Gordo told the Sunday Mirror.

Other news this week:

  • Richard Corrigan is currently filming a new television series for Channel Five. According to the Irish Independent, the show will 'be based on 17 hours worth of live footage a day following the goings-on in the restaurant's kitchen.'
  • Bruno Loubet, currently cooking up a storm in the Zetter hotel, is apparently already thinking of expanding the Bistrot Bruno Loubet brand. In an interview with the FT he says there may eventually be three or four in total, but no more as 'My food is too personal'.
  • In the same week that KFC at Leicester Square got a dressing down for the unsavoury additions one food inspector found in their kitchen (you can imagine the worst) the fast food chain launches the unthinkable - or is that the inedible? - a burger with chicken breasts instead of buns. Our arteries are furring just at the thought of it (but disgustingly, we want to try it).
  • And finally, make sure you’ve eaten before reading the Guardian’s story on how breakfast is becoming the battleground in hotel-land for high-end establishments hoping to create a difference between them and the next five star lodging house down the road. Hot Dinners is thinking of  making a booking for the Lancaster’s first meal of the day.  Lobster club sandwich and a dessert trolley for brekkie? It would be rude not to.
