Edwin’s, a restaurant and wine bar serving Lyonnais and regional French dishes alongside a 100% French wine list is set to open next month in the heart of Shoreditch on Phipp Street.
The restaurant takes the name of its proprietor Edwin Chan, a Hong Kong based ‘Adman’ turned restaurateur with a passion for French cuisine and wine. Edwin’s is the second restaurant by Chan, his first (of the same name) is located in Lyon, which he opened in 2007.
Bringing a bit of Lyon to London, Chan has poached Chef Yoan Mebknout to head up the kitchen. A young Chef, Mebknout previously worked at Lyon’s top restaurants, Leon de Lyon and Rue Le Bec before taking up position at Paul Bocuse’s Brasserie Argensson.
Mebknout’s weekly changing menu is built around well known French and Lyonnais dishes including Terrine de fois gras, Saucisson brioche, Quenelle de brochet and Andouillette, and Salmon Marine.
The menu will also feature a selection of artisan French charcuterie and cheeses, and daily specials aimed at showcasing seasonal, regional French classics, Cassoulet, Blanquette, Bouride, Tartiflette, Choucroute and Boudins blanc et noir. Puddings will include Tarte au sucre Bressane, Tarte aux pralines and Gauffres.
Staying true to concept, the wine bar at Edwin’s will feature an all-French wine list made up of over 3,000 bottles – all privately imported and sourced by Edwin’s Lyon. Wines by the glass will start at £4 (champagne £9), there are three Pot Lyonnais choices (375ml) at £10 and most bottles will be priced between £20 to £35. The restaurant will seat 40 and the wine bar will serve 15.
Edwin’s French Wine Bar and Restaurant opens on 18 Phipp Street, London EC2A 4NU on 1 October 2012. For more information go to www.edwinsfrenchwinebar.co.uk
